I saw many have stated that their "cakes" fell apart during cooking or were hard to keep together. To correct this, crevice an egg in your mixture and mix well before forming into cakes and frying. This will keep them together and volition also assure even browning. This is a simple and dish with a wonderful taste. Thank you for posting it.

I thought that this recipe was terrific and needed non too much time to ready. I did, however; dip the cakes into egg and curl into bread crumbs. This helped the cakes stay together because they accept a tendency to fall apart when frying. I served this with a mixture of i tb. dijon mustard, three tb. mayonaisse. My six twelvemonth old girl came dorsum for seconds. Great with a tossed salad.

I liked this much better than the homemade corned beef hash I fabricated recently. Liked them even better when I made a few additions--a good shake of Cajun seasoning, a couple of cloves of garlic (minced, thrown in toward the cease of the onion cooking) and most 2/iii loving cup corn. With a nice salad, it was a quick and delicious repast.

Expert hash, only it needs a footling more than flavor. I like corned beefiness hash and I like the idea of making it fresh I also like the idea of making information technology into cakes. Information technology won't fry into a hard, fast-food hash brown because the mashed potatoes have too much water. Next fourth dimension I'll use more than corned beef, maybe more onion, and maybe some staff of life crumbs to absorb a little moisture. But however, its a good base.

BE PATIENT!!!! Go by the recipe, refrigerate for at least half an hour before cooking and don't plough too many times while cooking and these will exist perfect. Enjoy :o)!

my married man loves corn beef hash and this i is a keeper! definitely add the egg to proceed the cakes from falling autonomously. wonderful flavor and unproblematic to prepare.

I am not certain where to get-go with this one....the flavor was then ON it'south not funny (and I call back that has everything to practice with how the corned beef is prepared), but these cakes don't stay together. I added an egg, and would add another adjacent fourth dimension. I also added most a teaspoon and a one-half of dijon mustard and a small palmful of dried chives. Formed the patties and let them remainder for a skillful hour and they even so crumbled in the pan. Ultimately, I just added liquid and made a hash out of them. It was delicious, but this recipe needs to call for at least ii eggs and perhaps something more in social club to demark the mixture. Thanks!

I only made these Corned Beef Hash Cakes with my leftovers from St Paddy'south day. They were cracking! I added an egg to the mixture. My husband loved them and I will add them to my recipe box.
03/19/2008
These hashcakes are just similar the ones my mom used to make! I used leftover corned beef and boiled potatoes from St. Patricks, mashed the potatoes, and followed the recipe. You lot take to use an egg every bit a sticking agent, I don't run across how it would concur together without. My family ate them all in less than xv minutes! Great employ for leftovers.

O.Thousand. I tried these this morning, and yes they did want to fall apart, however, letting the batch sit for about an 60 minutes, and they house up.There actually isn't much flavor to them, added onion powder, and garlic powder, but still kind of tasteless. Put the residuum of the batch in the freezer.

My grandmother fabricated an almost identical recipe and formed the mixture into walnut sized balls as opposed to patties. She served them at parties and gatherings forth with her bootleg cocktail sauce and dips.

great recipe..take made this for years with a few exceptions. I adda egg as a folder, and used canned corned beefiness.
01/13/2010
This was really tasty, made from tinned corned beef. Did add an egg to the mixture and put in refrigerator for 30 mins and covered in flour before frying, equally mentioned in comments. Will def be making again very soon. Besides made too much this time, and so half went in freezer.
06/03/2010
Just ok, probably won't make again.

My mother made this for years....yes, you need to add together an egg as binder; but, at that place is also 3 other things to practice to keep the ingredients from falling apart...1. brand stiff potatoes, 2. refigerate mixture until thoroughly common cold so iii. lightly flower patty before frying. Also, mom ever fabricated this recipe using canned corned beef.

crawly recipe, only like my mom used to make! Had a really hard time getting them flipped in the pan even with the added egg, so my genius husband came up with the nifty idea of using our pannini maker. Worked amazing!! will be making this again for sure.
12/19/2009
It will help go on them together if you brand them smaller & med-high heat with little oil. Permit them get nice & crispy on one side & you should accept no problem flipping;) Had these this morning time & the hubby loved 'em. Have fun chefin' it up, I did!

This is a dish we make a lot in Bermuda and nosotros add 1 egg, parsley, thyme, garlic pulverisation. Also dip in flour before frying. Make certain you don't fry the onions in also much oil every bit it will stop the mixture from keeping together.
03/17/2007
What a great fashion to use up a little corned beef. I did add together an egg as suggested and had no problem with the cakes falling apart. Otherwise I folled the recipe exactly except I didn't apply whatever common salt because I used potatoes cooked in the corned beef broth which was plenty salty. Will make these over again. TFTR

I made Colcannon and Guinness Corned Beef for St. Pat's day and so I made mine with the Colcannon and the Guinness Corned Beef left overs, AMAZING. I did put the patties into flour before frying, it helped and then be less sticky. The dinner was fabulous and the breakfast was just every bit good! We may take this more than than one time a yr!

I make something like this which my family really loves. I use 1 tin can of corned beef. Instead of mashed potatoes, I bake a couple of potatoes in the microwave and brew it into the corned beef. I add a couple of eggs, light-green onions, mix well. Form the patties and fry in oil. This recipe does not accept the problem of falling apart.
02/05/2014
This was ok, I used canned hash instead of the mashed potatoes. Was a little bland. Used mainly the cooking method and the suggestion to add an egg. My FIL has nostalgia for these---his mom used to make them. He wanted me to make some for the super bowl appies. I attempted them! Added a slice of cheese to cook on the pinnacle.

This was a great base recipe. After reading some of the reviews and the problems virtually them falling apart, I added an egg and some panko and for flavor some Lawry'southward seasoned common salt. As well gave the mixture a few pulses in the food processor which helped with the bounden, I think. Fried them up in olive oil and my kids wolfed them down. Yum!!

I had the full opposite trouble of almost reviewers - my mixture was FAR too wet to brand patties out of! I did add together the egg AND utilise instant mashed potatoes and that must be the difference... I wonder how dry other people's potatoes must be that the cakes a) can be formed at all and b) crumble upon cooking. I added some frozen shredded hash browns to give mine some more bulk, then merely glopped it on the griddle like actually thick pancake batter. The egg helped them crisp upwardly on the outside so they nonetheless flipped nicely... went over well at my part's weekly team breakfast!

Accept been making for years. Mom made these when I was a little kid. We apply left over beef roast instead of corned beef. Today I used left over venison roast. I actually don't measure since we have been making for years. The difference is that we grind the meat with a meat grinder and we use a egg. Information technology is easier to shred, but I experience y'all become a more fifty-fifty texture and taste by grinding. If you don't want to mess your hands up by patting, employ a measuring cup, put in fry pan and squash with a spatula. I prefer to use olive oil. If you want to freeze, spray a pan with cooking spray, make the patties by using the measuring cup, spatula method. When froze put into freeze bags. It besides is a must with me that I utilize ketchup on top of the patty. I also put ketchup on top of corned beef hash and fried potatoes.

I tried this this morning and they were great. I also add 2 eggs and caned corned beefiness
02/23/2016
I followed the advise of and then many of you. I put and egg to bind. I coated with panko. I place in refrigerator ten one hour. I did non flip more than than once. and for my ain spin, I place a sunny side up egg on elevation. delish!

My mom made these besides! She'd sometimes add together peas, if they were left over from Sunday dinner. She didn't try to make them into patties though. It was simply fried up in one slice in a heavy frying pan. Our serving was the size of the egg-turner. She'd also sometimes make an indentation to 'fry' an egg on top.
04/21/2009
Cakes brutal apart a bit, fifty-fifty using an egg, only still delicious. Used the mayo/mustard combo that another reviewer suggested as a dipping sauce - *very* tasty.
03/11/2004
I fabricated these for an Irish potluck and they tasted all right, simply not like the corned beef hash that I am used to. Too, they fell apart so I dipped them in egg and breaded them which helped. Not my favorite and won't brand them again.
05/22/2012
the common complaint with them belongings together was true: these were too soft to turn. when I make regular murphy pancakes from mashed taters I make mine with an egg and 2 TB of flour mixed into the taters to get them to concur together....so treated this the same way....add together a lilliputian flour and 1 browbeaten egg to the mix. Personally I also added i/viii tsp garlic for added season...so I liked the basic thought of the hasbbrown Cake and so doctored it up a lilliputian more than.

I made corned beefiness rissoles using 'dry' mashed tater, no milk or butter added, corned beefiness, sping onion, mixed herbs, garlic, and balmy red chilli. I whisked an egg and put half into the mixture to bind information technology. And so shaped cakes using flour on my easily and a board. Then Refrigderate for an hour to house the cakes. So heat a little oil in a hot heavy bottomed pan. Melt for at least vi mins until very very slightly burnt then turn and cook other side for vi minutes. I serve the cakes with kokosnoot rice and beans (gungo). Delicious. Leftover cakes are really tasty in a sandwich. Corned beef rissoles/ cakes are one of my favourite comfort dishes too.

I fabricated this recipe with regular roast beef and information technology was splendid. Made a double batch and baked the extra for 20 minutes (warmed through). It was very good both ways!!

I left out the onions. These cakes are REALLY good. The smell when they are frying up is amazing, and so when y'all finally eat information technology....with these around we didn't need salary with breakfast. We did take problems keeping the cakes together, maybe because we fried it in oil and that was non specified in the recipe, merely I dont retrieve that was it. I even tried adding nearly ii tbsp of flour to the mixture, but information technology didn't assist out. Merely I do recommend adding that flour, because it gives the cake a density that was nice. I volition have to try the suggestion past TheKissingCook next time. The lady at the deli counter was nice enough to shave the corned beefiness for usa, then that was easy, and we used the unabridged half pound, hoping to make the cakes stick together more. Nosotros also used butter and herb instant mashed potatoes (took iii minutes to make in the microwave) - might try cheddar or roasted garlic flavored, next fourth dimension. I also like the idea of corn, and so I may endeavor that also, adjacent time. We served this with feta scrambled eggs, and it went very well together. WE LOVED THESE CAKES!!

Sorry, hit washed earlier I was.... egg binder is wise. The recipe is besides easily adaptable for whatever who desire a trivial more than flavor. I utilize a single average size fresh mushroom and dice it upwardly into small bits and, if available even quite sparse strip off a yellowish sugariness pepper as well finely chopped to stir in mixture. Plus a pinch of garlic. Information technology tin can be served nicely with a bit of chow on the side.
03/25/2018
I make my corned beef with gilt potatoes. I diced leftover potatoes and added them instead of mashed. I sauted my onions in olive oil and added Adobo and an egg to the mixture. My Irishman loved them.
04/10/2020
Give thanks you lot It was good. But information technology took a long time to cook...wasn't as quick equally you would think it would be.
06/12/2015
unsure what happened hither, they brutal apart, and we're as well loose. I may try the panini printing, equally suggested, as the flavour was fine, other than they were soaked in grease. Maybe my grease wasn't hot enough to make sure yours is.

This is how my Mom always made her corned beef hash cakes..love this..i of my comfort foods. Like my mom, I always have this with marinated cucumbers! Tasty

This was FANTASTIC and only what I was looking for. I actually did non want cakes, only wanted corned beef hash. My married man loves the canned hash for breakfast with his eggs. Too me it smells worse than can dog food. I gave this a whirl this morning with my left over corned beef. He went to piece of work a happy man.

I didn't read over the reviews prior to making this and that was a mistake. The recipe doesn't say to exercise so simply after forming the cakes I put them in the fridge overnight to firm up. They were dainty and business firm but completely fell apart within seconds in the pan and no I did not try to flip. I ended up adding an egg to the rest of the cakes after reading the reviews and that did the fob. You lot really demand to employ an egg unless your leftover potatoes are completely plain with no butter and fifty-fifty then I think you all the same need the egg. This is a corking way to change up leftover corned beef and the beefiness/potato ratio was spot on. You lot but need to add together an egg.

Love this recipe my mom use to make it when I was young.
01/17/2014
I have tried making corned beef hash several and was never satisfied. I just couldn't seem to get plenty flavour. I recall using mashed potatoes helps the flavor to permeate throughout. To save fourth dimension, I used instant mashed potatoes and fabricated them a little dry out. I only made 2 small patties just to endeavour them, and I didn't accept too much problem holding them together. I put the balance of the mixture in the refrigerator to have for breakfast, and I retrieve I will try adding an egg. I believe leaving them overnight volition enhance the flavour. Can't wait to try them in the morning with a fried egg on top !
